Did you know that there are several technology initiatives and communities aimed at supporting different underrepresented groups in technology area? And several of them support women.
And why is the existence of these communities important? So that there are safe environments, people who bring representation, increased inclusion, engagement, and diversity of people in companies, universities, and anywhere else. Get to know some of these initiatives with us in the list below.
Brazilian communities and initiatives:
- PyLadies Brasil: PyLadies is a worldwide community that was brought to Brazil with the purpose of instigating more women to enter the technological area. We have PyLadies in several regions of the country. Learn more by clicking here.
- Minas Programam: Minas Programam is an initiative created in 2015 to challenge the gender and race stereotypes that influence our relationship with science, technology and computing fields. They promote learning opportunities about programming for girls and women, giving priority to those who are black or indigenous. Learn more by clicking here.
- Feministech: A feminist community of female-identifying, non-binary people who produce, consume, and share content about technology in a diverse and inclusive environment. Learn more by clicking here.
- JavaGirl Devs: A group of women who loves and are learning Java language, starting their career or improving themselves in this area. Learn more by clicking here.
- WoMakersCode: From engineering to leadership, they connect women who want to make a difference in technology and innovation. Learn more by clicking here.
- PrograMaria: PrograMaria’s mission is to empower girls and women through technology and programming. The project currently includes events and the course Eu Progra{amo}, which aims to insert women and non-binary people into the programming universe, through an introduction to web development. - Test Girls: The Test Girls community has a mission to provide women with a safe space for learning, growing, and networking. Career, technology, and quality. Learn more by clicking here.
- UX for black mines: Edtech made by and for black women that through social impact expands employability in the digital market. Learn more by clicking here.
- Mulheres de Produto: Community for all product and tech women. Product content made by women for everyone! Learn more by clicking here.
- SysAdminas: The SysAdminas Community is an inclusive, non-profit group that provides a support network for women who want to learn IT Infrastructure related content in a safe and nurturing environment. The goal with this initiative is to encourage the participation of women in the technology area in Brazil. Learn more by clicking here.

- Girls Who Code: Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and change the image of what a developer looks and does. Learn more by clicking here.
